We’re racers.

At our core, all we want to do is be at the race track. We started this business because we saw too many local drivers unable to go to the track as often as they would like because they were doing all of the car prep and maintenance themselves. While most of us enjoy working on our track and race cars, when doing our own work prevents us from making an event it’s no longer fun! B’ham Road & Race was founded to give you a resource to complete the project that’s just out of reach. It was founded to be a source of motorsports knowledge that you can trust.

Our Lead Technician and Partner in the business, Mitch Cobb, runs the daily operations. Mitch grew up racing everything from karts and open wheel cars, to dirt and asphalt late models, and sportscars. Mitch spent eleven years working at the Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum in the restoration shop, perfecting many of the cars and bikes you see on display their today. Does it get any cooler than that? It does, because Mitch got to drive and ride many of the cars and bikes in the collection, even getting the chance to drive a World Championship winning Ferrari F1 car at the Goodwood Festival of Speed!

After spending a decade working on priceless museum pieces Mitch built the skillset needed to strike out on his own and become a force to be reckoned with in paddocks around the country as race cars he preps take podiums and race wins. Mitch and I started racing together in 2019. We actually won our first race together (this Andrew Rains writing this by the way…)! We knew shortly thereafter that this was a partnership that would work.

I introduced Mitch to John Whitson, a Birmingham area BMW racer and real estate developer, and a friend of mine. After almost a year of prepping John’s racecar, John decided to join Mitch and I and form Birmingham Road & Race.

The shop is co-located with Alabama Gearheads, a storage space for car enthusiasts that provides you with access to lifts and tools (and 24 hour surveillance!). Alabama Gearheads is in downtown Birmingham – the ideal location for it’s proximity to Birmingham’s suburbs, offices, and Barber Motorsports Park!

Do you need work performed on your high performance car? Well, we are here to help. We specialize in race cars and high performance street cars, particularly ones that plan to see action at track day and high performance driving events. Mitch can handle anything from a simple alignment or brake job, to a ground up race car build. We do not charge book hours for our work – we charge how long the job takes us at a rate of $155/ hour. Estimates are always provided ahead of starting work as well to ensure everyone is on the same page.
